Power Flushing

Cleaning central heating systems on a regular basis is essential for its maintenance and health. We offer a popular cleaning method called Power Flushing which provides rapid and thorough cleaning results. This flush will cover your central heating system including pipework, radiators, cylinder and boiler.

Here are some of the benefits of cleaning your heating system

  • A level heat distribution throughout your house
  • Improved overall energy savings
  • Lower household bills
  • Increased system reliability
  • Rust protected central heating system
  • Extended system life

  • You might be wondering how you’ll know if your system needs a power flush? Well here are some of the symptoms we think you should look out for

  • Do you find that the radiators need frequent bleeding?
  • Are certain rooms much colder than others?
  • Does it take a long time for system to warm up?
  • Is the boiler noisy?
  • Are one or more radiators cold at the bottom?

  • Building Regulations

In addition to the benefits above, the Compliance Guide to Part L of the UK Building Regulations for England and Wales requires central heating systems to be cleaned and flushed before a corrosion and scale inhibitor chemical is added during commissioning. It’s also sensible to do this when an old central heating boiler is being replaced by a new boiler. Many boiler manufacturers now make the warranty dependent on flushing and cleaning in accordance with BS7593, Benchmark and Part L.

So now you’re thinking about the consequences of what might happen if you don’t flush your boiler… well here’s just a few of the issues

    Total boiler failure

Sludge and deposits restricting heat transfer can cause excessive heat build-up. If your boiler has failed as a result of sludge due to not having a power flush, then your warranty on your boiler could be void.

    Fuel wastage

In untreated boilers, debris in the form of sludge, deposits, rust and scale can build up which limits the flow of water and eventually heat from reaching all parts of the system. Lost heat means you’ll have to turn up your heating system to compensate for the loss in efficiency which is likely to cost you a lot more money.

Pump or valve seizure and failure

Black oxide sludge increases shaft and bearing wear which is the most common cause of sticking pumps or complete pump failure. A completely blocked valve could mean a cold radiator or at the very least an inefficient one.

    Little or no hot water

Again this is caused by blocked pipes and heat exchanger due to an excess build-up of sludge or deposits.

    Cold radiators

If your radiators are cold at the bottom but hot at the top this indicates sludge build up in your system. This is caused by a build-up of iron oxide sludge at the bottom of your radiator (as the sludge is heavier than water) which results in a restriction of the flow of water.

Frequent venting and air at the top of radiators

Hydrogen, often mistaken for air, is a by-product of electrolytic corrosion.
